Refreshing before next semester

A quick refresher

Melissa had a bunch of leftover icing from the cakes she’d made for the first Wilton course. The second course doesn’t decorate a cake until the last class, so she baked one to use all her icing on and get in a little practice this week. The result looks quite nice, and I’m sure a taste test tomorrow will find it to be of excellent quality. :)

I’m a Graduate!

Thursday, August 4th, 2005

I went to the last class in course 1 of the Wilton decorating series today. I even got a spiffy certificate that proclaims my completion of the course. I think this is my best cake so far. It’s almost exactly like the one in the book, and it was super yummy too! Course 2 starts next week, and it mostly involves learning how to make more flowers. Luckily, I won’t have to make another cake until the end of that course. We’re sick of cake. :)

A Cake for Pooh

The back of the circus.
A circus on a cake!

Knowing how much Pooh LOVES clowns, I dedicate this cake to her. Maybe I’ll make one like it for her birthday. :) I went to my third Wilton class tonight, and this is the cake I made. The teacher finally taught us how to make a proper rose, and we also made clowns, shells, and some other flowers. There’s a picture of the cake in the class workbook that we were supposed to do (with about 10 different colors of icing), but I don’t have room for that much icing on our one shelf in the fridge, so I improvised. My favorite clown is the one climbing up the back of the cake. The one sitting on the side sort of slid off a little bit. I’ve really enjoyed this first decorating course, so I went ahead and signed up for course two. I’m on my way to becoming Big Mama! Woo!
